Bye, Felicia.

It doesn't get any better than this. When a few vocal curmudgeons howled in protest over this Reno Gazette Journal cover, RGJ editor Brian Duggan responded with this:

Dear people complaining about today's front page: I chose that photo to run on the cover and I'd do it again. Kthxbye pic.twitter.com/dWGttCFNoO

Overall, that was quite the good read. But because we're awfully shady b-tchez, we thought of the perfect response.

Look, hunties. We get it. Not everyone is happy about marriage equality coming to Nevada. But come on, grrl. Just because they want a temper tantrum doesn't mean they have the right to spoil the party for all the rest of us.

News flash: They're not the only people in the world. Hell, they're not even the majority any more. Who do they think they are? Beyonce? Oh, hellz to the no!

Now that the usual H8 filled suspects no longer have a law suit to fight, they have to find something else to fill their time with. So now, they're trolling.

This isn't the first time they trolled. They've just become far more pathetic in doing so over the past five years.

And all we have to say about it is...

Village Idiots

Who knew this is what a true crisis looks like? It's so shocking. It's so eye-popping. And it's oh so... Stupid.

Arizona State Rep. Adam Kwasman (R) wants to move up to Congress. Apparently, he saw yesterday's big anti-immigrant protest in Oracle, Arizona, as a great campaign photo-op. So he traveled to Oracle and called attention to a big yellow school bus. And then, this happened.

At least Rep. Mark Amodei (R-Carson City) had a tele-town-hall to hide behind when he was asked about immigration on Monday. And at least Rep. Joe Heck (R-Henderson) was nowhere to be found when immigrant rights activists showed up at his district office yesterday. But alas, Adam Kwasman wasn't that lucky. And he certainly wasn't prepared for the revelation that the big yellow school bus actually contained local YMCA campers.

Who knew it could be so fun to stay at the YMCA? But alas, the children weren't greeted by the real Village People. Rather, they were greeted by the seemingly surreal village idiots.

The only ones missing from the village idiots' convention were Cliven Bundy and the rest of the "Patriot Movement" domestic terrorists haterade addicts. After all, we know how much fun they have at the YMCA.

But seriously, this is ridiculous. Actually, this whole display of idiocy by the 21st Century Know Nothings is ridiculous. It's as ridiculous as Adam Kwasman's Congressional campaign... And dare we say it's as ridiculous as Adam Laxalt's entire political career.

Who knew this is what a true crisis looks like? Actually, we did. And we've been pointing this out ever since the media began discussing "Republican rebranding".

As usual, you're welcome.

Sashay Away

For some, too much is never enough. This definitely applies to Cliven Bundy and his gang of "outlaw cowboys". For them, too much attention is never enough.

They loved it when national G-O-TEA politicians & pundits rushed to their aid. But when the Republican Party started "rebranding" its #BundyRanch involvement and the Kochs started to deny the existence of #BundyRanch, they had to rethink their media strategy.

So they started unleashing armed madness upon the Virgin Valley (and each other). They then proceeded to drive business away from the Mesquite area. And because it wasn't enough for them to damage Nevada's reputation, they then began making field trips to Utah to terrorize that state with their signature brand of lunacy.

Of course, "Free-dumb isn't free". That's why some Bundy Gang members have taken to GoFundMe to demand welfare checks donations for continued wannabe insurrection shit whatever. Apparently, they're most in need of life advice from the very wise philosopher, Lohanthony.

Needless to say, "outlaw militia" crew at #BundyRanch are now running into some money trouble. Below is some exclusive footage of the Bundy Gang soliciting at GoFundMe.

(Obviously, not really. The Bundy crew wish they could be this sickening!)

But wait, there's more. The Bundy Gang may be busy soliciting funds, but they're never too busy to throw shade at elected officials. And this week, they're actually reading Governor Brian Sandoval (R) and Clark County Sheriff Doug Gillespie to filth for not supporting their law breaking ways. Apparently, they forgot when Brian Sandoval cheered them on... Or they remember that, and they're just wondering why he doesn't want to be caught anywhere near them any more.

Here's some helpful advice for the Bundy Crew. Remember the 5 G's: Good god, get a grip, girl!

Here's some more helpful advice for the Bundy Gang: Call it quits already. We know you feel very attacked, but that's no reason to take up arms against our elected government that's set up by the very Constitution you claim to know & love. It's just too much. And the last thing we need is a man-made disaster on your hands.

We can only hope Cliven Bundy and his outlaw gang can take this helpful advice from us, and from Mama Ru of course, before their delusions of grandeur land them into any more trouble. It's now time for them... To sashay away.

Hot Mess

So it's 3 steps forward, 2 steps back for "Governor Sunny"? Back in February, Governor Brian Sandoval (R) finally agreed to drop the state's legal fight against marriage equality by essentially dropping out of Sevcik v. Sandoval. That's why the remaining defendants are left presenting this in court.

We thought Governor Sandoval had finally fully evolved into the 21st century. But no, he's crawling backward again by backtracking on marriage. Oh yes, he still won't say he supports marriage equality... Even though he's admitted the state's legal argument against marriage equality has no leg left to stand on.

What's this about? Is Sandoval truly that confused? Or is this just his twisted way of providing cover for Mark Hutchison, Adam Laxalt, Joe Heck, Cresent Hardy, and all the other Nevada Republicans who refuse to acknowledge the existence of the 21st century? Whatever the case, all we have to say is this.

Queen, you're a hot mess!

But then again, the entire Republican Party has devolved into a total hot mess. They can't reconcile their alleged devotion to "FREEDOM!" with their resistance to granting all loving couples the freedom to marry. So they must twist & turn in all sorts of strange directions to make their "libertarian populism" sound coherent.

So what else are we supposed to say? What else can we add? Oh yes, this: Queen, you're a hot mess!

Cat Out of the Bag

We've been meaning to get to this. We know Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D) has been in the news lately. And since we report and discuss the news, we can't avoid this sticky subject any longer.

We know Senator Reid is in trouble. He & his staff have been trying so hard to hide this scandal, but it can't stay hidden any longer.

Let's just get this out of the bag now. Someone needs to apologize for this. And that should only be the beginning.

We can't stay quiet about this any longer. And neither can Senator Reid. It's time for Nevada Democrats to take care of this before it's too late.

We couldn't stay quiet about this any longer. And no one else should be expected to stay quiet. It's time to let this cat out of the bag and speak the truth.

Sorry, Senator Reid...

End of the Line

I'm not sure what else to do. We may have finally reached the end of the line here. It's over.

I've done everything I could to continue this blog. Let's just say this has been a ton of work. And it hasn't always been easy work. And it may just be work I can no longer afford to do for free.

So with immense sadness in my heart, I must close this blog. It's been a rewarding labor of love in many ways. But at this point, I just can't continue.

I'm so sorry. I hope you will understand.

Sorry. We Have to Call It Quits.

I'm so sorry. As you most definitely know, we at Nevada Progressive have tried our hardest to bring you the news and views you won't find anywhere else. However, this doesn't come cheap.

And sorry, kids, but WE'RE BROKE!

So what exactly are we supposed to do? We had a tough choice to make. But hopefully, this is a decision you can all respect.

We're deciding to sell this blog to Chuck Muth, and it's likely he'll eventually roll this into Nevada News & Views.

This way, you'll get more of the RIGHT side of every story. I hope you respect this decision. We need to move on with our lives. And frankly, we really need the money!

Please don't hate us. Really, this is the best decision for Nevada's whole blogosphere. And we're sure we won't be the only ones doing this soon.

GOoP Hypocrisy Inaction: Sharrontology Threatens to File Frivolous Law Suit, GOoP to Embrace "Big Government Socialism" for Protest

This is too batsh*t crazy to be true. It has to be... Oh wait, that's right. We're talking about Sharrontology Obtuse Angle here.

Sharron Angle has resorted to an unusual maneuver to counter Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's attacks on her past quotes and positions, the Reid campaign has announced: A cease-and-desist letter, demanding that Reid no longer republish Angle's previous campaign website.

The short version of the story is as follows: After the former state Rep won Nevada's Republican Senate primary, Angle's campaign took down most of its website, and later replaced it with a relaunched version that in some ways toned down her right-wing rhetoric. But Internet pages are rarely ever forgotten -- the Reid campaign saved the old version, and put up a website called "The Real Sharron Angle," reproducing the old content.

Then, they say, the Angle campaign sent them a cease-and-desist letter, claiming misuse of copyrighted materials in the reposting of the old website -- which was, of course, being posted for the purposes of ridiculing Angle. The Reid campaign has in fact taken down the site, rerouting visitors to another website that goes after Angle's positions, "Sharron's Underground Bunker." [...]

We asked Reid campaign deputy communications director Zac Petkanas whether, by taking down the "Real Sharron Angle" site, they were admitting the legitimacy of the complaint. "While we do not necessarily agree with the Angle campaign's assertions, a point is made," said Petkanas. "Sharron Angle is hiding her views from Nevada voters."

So what's Sharrontology afraid of? Oh yes, that's right. All of this...

Sharrontology

Sharron Angle holds dangerously extreme policy positions. Even fellow Republicans don't understand her extreme views. She has publicly taken the following positions (NOTE: Because Angle has been modifying information on her website, we link to screen captures of her policy stances as shown on her site before modification):
Privatize Social Security (Face to Face, May 19, block 1)
Criminalize alcohol (Liberty Watch magazine, 2006)
Pull out of the United Nations (Sharron Angle's website)
Eliminate the Department of Education (Sharron Angle's website)
Eliminate the Environmental Protection Agency (Nevada News and Views, March 22, 2010)
Eliminate the Department of Energy (Nevada News and Views, March 22, 2010)
Put nuclear plants inside Yucca Mountain (Sharron Angle's website)
Abolish the IRS (Sharron Angle's website)
Wants to tell women that abortions cause cancer (AB580, 1999)

But if she's so right and most Nevadans are really clamoring for a radical right extremist to represent us in the US Senate, then why is Sharrontology so afraid of us learning the truth about her real positions on the issues? Oh, and why won't she be a "good conservative" and take some personal responsibility for her own actions? I thought she was against "frivolous law suits"... So now she wants to file one?

And chalk another one up for GOoP hypocrisy, they want to protest on Thursday when President Obama and Senator Reid do a rally open to the public at CityCenter. Wait, I thought they said we're always supposed to "Support the Commander-in-Chief"... Oh wait, only when he's Bush? And they're complaining about jobs and foreclosures... I thought they wanted those left to "the free market"? And what are they doing taking advantage of socialized police, socialized sidewalk, and socialized government subsidizing of free speech? If the GOoPers want a protest, shouldn't they use a "free market solution" and rent space at The Palazzo? Oh wait, that's right... They couldn't honor their date set for their own "tea party nation convention"!

So yet again, we see GOoP hypocrisy in full bloom. Why should we expect anything else? Well, at least it should be fun to laugh at them on Thursday when they make complete fools of themselves.

Oh, and by the way, I dare them to join me in helping stimulate the local economy on Thursday. After the event, I'll be doing dinner on The Strip, somewhere that's NOT Sharrontology's Underground Bunker. Do they believe in the resiliency of Nevada's "free market economy" as much as I do? Haha. ;-)

Crazy Fun Video Night Goes to Food Network: Sandra Lee Edition

Because I can't get enough of Sandra Lee and her unique and entertaining brand of (non)cooking. If you thought her recent lasagna recipe was amazing, try some Kwanzaa cake! I can hardly wait for "Semi-Homemade" to return with new (HILARIOUS!) episodes this fall!

Enjoy the weekend, bitchez! :-D

NV-Sen: Bye Bye Suzy?

Suzy Lowdown's BusGate scandal continues to keep her campaign in full tailspin. She could face over $1,000,000 in fines and up to five years in jail time (yes, SLAMMER TIME!) for this EPIC FAIL or accepting that luxury liner of a campaign bus in flagrant disregard of campaign finance law.

Meanwhile, a new PPP poll is the first poll to show Sharron Angle with a lead, albeit a tiny 29% to 26% lead over Ms. Suzy (within the margin of error) with Lil' Tark Shark close behind at 24%. So is Suzy Lowdown done? Maybe not yet, but she certainly isn't the "inevitable one" that the "newspaper" that shall not be named claimed she was.

Well, maybe there's someone who understands the situation Suzy Lowdown is in...

But at least Britney could eventually make a comeback. I don't know if Ms. Suzy can.

Monday, May 17, 2010

In Honor of Suzy Lowdown...

And the massive trainwreck her campaign has become, I present to you...

It can't be too much longer before SNL does a skit... Hell, make it an entire episode of this!

Casinos: Interesting Developments on The Strip

The Kardashians are opening a club at Caesars? Silk Road is closing at Vdara to make way for a special casino? What is this town coming to? I guess Vegas is going insane.

Oh yes, and did I mention the new rumors about Celine Dion's new Vegas show? Oh jeez, what an interesting day this is today!

BREAKING: Health Care Reform Deemed Unconstitutional

This is major news. I guess this means health care is done... Kaput... FAIL. Sadly for us, our chance to really make progress on health care is gone. And really, we're to blame.

This is truly a sad day for America.

NV-Sen: Best. Fundraising. Ask. EVAH!

WOW! I didn't know Harry Reid had this in him. This is quite witty. Thumbs up from me (and I guess I'll also have to get out my wallet :-D ).

Dear Andrew,
This weekend Sarah Palin and the Tea Party came to Searchlight and held a rally. You might have seen it on the news.
I wasn't there, but I'm told there were speeches, some signage featuring questionable assertions, and a lot of calling Democrats "socialists." I guess it's better not to let the facts get in the way of a good rally sign.
CLICK HERE AND HELP ME FIGHT FOR THE VALUES WE SHARE TODAY!
I double checked the definition of 'socialism,' and it's defined as a political philosophy that advocates for government ownership of private industryAbsolutely needless to say, not a view I agree with in the least.
My first thought was that we could hold a fundraising drive to buy dictionaries for all these folks and mail them out lickity split. But my campaign manager rightly pointed out that with the first quarter coming to an endwe should raise money for the campaign in dictionary-sized increments instead.
Donate today!Calling me a 'socialist' has as much basis in fact as calling health reform a 'government takeover' -- none at all. I'm making light of this nonsense today, but these attacks reveal a troubling reality. These folks are standing in strong opposition to progress for our economy at a time when Nevadans are struggling to make ends meet.
If you agree that passing health insurance reform was a great thing for our country, and that passing two bipartisan jobs bills in the last two months was a good start, then I'm asking you to invest in my campaign today.
I'm dedicated to fighting for the values we share in the U.S. Senate. With your help, I'll continue doing just that in years to come. President Obama, Speaker Pelosi and I have a lot to do -- and we can't produce the change we know we need without your help.
Thanks so much for your support,
Harry
