One More Anti-Choice FAIL

Farewell, personhood initiative.

Personhood Nevada face a Tuesday deadline to collect more than 72,000 signatures to place the proposed constitutional amendment on the ballot.

Organizers told The Associated Press on Friday that they will not meet the signature threshold.

The amendment called "The Right to Live for Young and Old" sought to define life as beginning at conception and prohibit some forms of birth control, fertility treatments when selective reduction is used, and embryonic stem cell research.

This isn't the first time that the "Call the Zygotes People" Initiative failed to make the ballot, but this may very well be the last time that anyone takes them seriously. Especially ever since women's reproductive freedom was enshrined in the Nevada Constitution twenty years ago, voters here have had no appetite for attacking that. And apparently, the recent Mitt Romney/Dean Heller/Joe Heck/"tea party" "War on Women" has done nothing but hurt Nevada Republicans.

So I'm not too surprised that the personhood initiative failed to qualify for the ballot. Frankly, it's just funny to see how the voters themselves scuttled it by declining to sign the petition. Ouch. I wonder if this is finally what it takes to get G-O-TEA politicians to realize that there's no value in attacking women's rights.
