OFA House Parties With Harry Reid & Dina Titus Tomorrow!

Hey, kids. Jennifer Lopez (no, not that one!) from OFA Nevada just dropped me a reminder about this weekend.

This Saturday, OFA Nevada and the Nevada State Democratic Party would like to invite you to a house meeting with a special guest, Senator Harry Reid, who will join us via conference call.

Senator Reid has been a crucial ally of President Obama -- championing health insurance reform and fighting to rein in the big banks on Wall Street.

There are even bigger battles ahead, and we need to make sure we send Harry Reid back to Washington, to keep fighting for Nevadans.

These house meetings will be the first step to get engaged locally and get trained to make a difference -- can you make it to one near you?

Click here to find and RSVP for a house meeting with Senator Reid in your neighborhood.

Join Our Friends at Progress Now for Our Own "Progressive TEA Party"

A very special message below...

ProgressNow Nevada
Dear Nevada Progressive,

The Tea Party will be out in force on Tax Day to claim taxes are ruining America.
We happen to think the bigger problem is corporate irresponsibility.
And in an age when the Supreme Court has given corporations the same free speech rights as individuals, we need to stand up to powerful interests and demand Tax Equality Action!

In Nevada, that means a fair mining tax; the regulation and taxation of marijuana and a broad-based business tax that helps provide adequate funding for the services the Tea Party pretends it doesn't use.
Join us this Thursday from 11:30am to 12:30pm at the Sunset Post Office (1001 E. Sunset Rd.) to show support for all the critical services our taxes provide and to demand greater tax fairness.
RSVP to the event on Facebook.
Or RSVP to the event on our site.
Bring a flag, make a sign. Taxpayers, Tea Partiers and the media will be at the post office, too. Let's make sure the progressive voice is heard!

Yours in progress,

Brian Fadie

Obama Coming to Save Reid? Looks Like It.

Well, so much for all the initial GOoPer celebrations over the death of Harry Reid's political career. It not only looks like President Obama has forgiven him over the much-ado-about-nothing "scandal", but he will be coming here next month to campaign for him!

The White House is about to make another big gesture demonstrating its support for Senator Harry Reid, the majority leader under fire for remarks he made about President Obama’s race.

In February, Mr. Obama will head to Nevada to appear with Mr. Reid, who is facing a tough reelection battle there, aides said today.

The decision by the president to fly to Nevada for the majority leader comes as the Reid operation has made an all-out effort to rally Democrats and African-Americans around Mr. Reid, and to head off a crisis that has grown amid crucial health care negotiations and his own campaign. Several Republican officials – including the chairman of the Republican National Committee, Michael Steele – called on Mr. Reid to resign.

Mr. Reid made clear he would not.

Whoops! I guess this story isn't over yet.

Well, hopefully at least the "nothingness scandal" story is...

Health Care: Dina Titus IS Doing a Town Hall Meeting, After All

So she is doing one...

Democratic Rep. Dina Titus will do this week what most Nevada lawmakers ably avoided during the long hot summer of Tea Party protests: She will host an open town hall forum on health care on Monday.

The freshmen congresswoman had publicly promised her constituents in August that she would return to her Southern Nevada district in fall with a full-fledged forum.

Titus is keeping good on her word with an event from 7-8 p.m. on Monday at Temple Ner Tamid, 55 North Valle Verde Drive in Henderson.

Yes, questions will be taken and answered.

The one we’re wondering is: Has the public mood cooled on health care reform or will fall prove as hot as summer?

Most Nevadans support health care reform and want a strong public option, so I hope Dina remembers this and ignores the tiny-but-loud teabagger minority as the rest of us ask her to get the job done. I also hope progressives remember to show up to ask so that it doesn't look like another teabagger hanging.
