Sharrontology STILL Spinning Out of Control

This is the new ad Harry Reid is using against Sharron Angle. Unlike that EPIC FAIL of a hit piece I mentioned earlier, this one uses facts, targets the intended voters well, has a clear message, and is owned up to by Reid.

Oh, and did I mention it's all true?

Angle hammered the escrow fund a month ago, declaring that "Government shouldn't be doing that to a private company" and calling it a "slush fund." She then quickly retracted the comment, bluntly stating that she was "incorrect" to call it a slush fund. But that retraction isn't letting her off the hook as far as political attacks are concerned.

Really? Does Sharrontology Obtuse Angle really believe we Nevadans love the idea of letting BP off the hook as The Gulf has become an ecological nightmare, destroying not just the land, but also the livelihood of many thousands of people?

Now wonder why her stunning political collapse continues.

The new Reuters/Ipsos poll of the Nevada Senate race gives Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid a narrow lead over his Republican challenger, former state Rep. Sharron Angle -- and a really big lead if turnout were to be higher than currently expected.
The numbers, among likely voters: Reid 48%, Angle 44%. There is no prior Reuters/Ipsos poll for direct comparison. The TPM Poll Averagegives Reid a lead of 45.1%-42.7%.
The kicker: Among the larger pool of registered voters, Reid leads by a phenomenal 52%-36%. So clearly, the job for Dem groups is to mobilize voters for Reid -- and against Angle's right-wing positions.

Yes, it is. If we don't want an absolute lunatic "representing" us, we have to get out and vote... And encourage all our friends, family, and neighbors to do the same! After all, why would we want someone who asks for our vote, then votes against our best interest as she continues raking in the contributions from her "Tea Party, Inc." BFFs?

And she thinks a new campaign spokesperson from the lovely FAILs that were Rudy Giuliani's "Noun, Verb, and 9/11" presidential campaign and Steve Poizner's "forget that I sold myself as a moderate, I'm now a conservative tea partier!" California Gubernatorial campaign will save her? Ay, yay, yay...

The Facts on Sharrontology & The Environment

Yesterday, I had the chance to enjoy some of the most beautiful stretch of coastline on the planet...

But what would happen if I couldn't? What would happen if this coastline were to look like this?

Now doesn't that look lovely? Well, this is what Sharrontology Obtuse Angle wants for us. No really, Sharrontology wants to deregulate the oil industry even more... Even AFTER news broke of the carnage of the BP oil spill!

QUESTION: You have been in support of onshore drilling in the United States as well as offshore drilling, are you rethinking that policy with what is going on in Louisiana?

ANGLE: No. I think that what happened in Louisiana was an accident. They're cleaning it up. We need to go forward and talk about prevention and not about whether we keep it out all together. We know that lot of the problems that have been caused for us with foreign policy and even with our own gas prices here domestically going up is our dependence upon foreign oil.

We have oil reserves and petroleum reserves that we should tap into. And that's a policy that we really need to look at as a nation. How do we deregulate enough to invite our industries to come back into the United States and quit outsourcing their business?

Really, Ms. Obtuse Angle? Really?

Yeah, that's what I thought. It was the Bush Administration's cult of deregulation and fossil fuel worship that got us into this mess in the first place! And Sharrontology wants MORE of this? Just like her plan to destroy Social Security, Obtuse Angle looks to be recycling the very worst Bush era policies and taking them to the furthest possible extreme.

Never mind that deregulation led to the BP oil disaster. Never mind that offshore drilling isn't as safe as the oil industry claims. Never mind that more offshore drilling does NOT lead to energy independence (further down, I mention what will). Never mind how we're now seeing the impact of drilling gone wild in The Gulf of Mexico, and how we'd be impacted closer to home if a similar drilling disaster were to happen in California if more offshore drilling were is permitted there. Nope, Obtuse Angle just ignores the facts like any good GOoPer would.

This is the same strategy she has on the real crisis we're facing with climate change. So what's Sharrontology's position? Oh, she doesn't believe in it!

Even as weather patterns change. Even as we see more extreme heat and extreme cold. Even as we see more floods, more uber-powerful hurricanes, more epic wildfires, more devastating droughts. Nope, Sharrontology Obtuse Angle doesn't believe in reality.

And worse, she doesn't believe in Nevada. We have so many opportunities in this state with solar, with wind, and with geothermal. But instead of offering any ideas to further our renewable future, Sharrontology wants more "Drill Baby Drill, Spill Baby Spill". Oh, and let's not forget she wants not just nuclear waste, but even nuclear power plants (!!!), at Yucca Mountain.

Let's now sum up what we've learned here. Sharrontology Obtuse Angle wants more unregulated offshore drilling. She wants more dependence on fossil fuel. She doesn't give a sh*t about renewable energy. And she doesn't believe in proven climate science.

Now why would we want that... When we can have this?

Just sayin'...

My Weekend of Eco-Activism

In case you haven't heard, a giant gravel pit may be started dangerously close to Henderson. Folks here, especially in areas like Anthem and Seven Hills that are only three to five miles from the proposed gravel pit, are enraged. Air, water, and noise pollution would become catastrophic. Home values would plummet (even more than what we've already endured in The Great Recession). The quality of life that we currently enjoy here would vanish. Basically, Henderson would no longer be that "Place to Call Home".

However, someone is thankfully coming to the rescue.

Sen. Harry Reid on Wednesday moved to block development of a major gravel quarry that has drawn complaints from residents at the southern end of the Las Vegas Valley.

Reid, D-Nev., introduced a bill he said would put a stop to the proposed Sloan Hills quarry on federal land outside Henderson. It would withdraw the 640-acre site off Las Vegas Boulevard South from being made available for mining purposes.

"The potential negative impacts of the proposed operation far outweigh any benefit the mine may provide," Reid said. "This legislation makes sure that the proposed gravel operations at Sloan Hills will not go forward." [...]

The proposed quarry is about three miles from the Anthem development, and slightly farther from other Henderson neighborhoods where residents have concerns about dirt and dust pollution, noise, truck traffic and the effect on their home values.

Two companies, Mexico-based Cemex and Service Rock Products of California, want to lease the BLM property, which contains high-quality construction aggregates that are used to make concrete.

Plans call for an open pit mining operation that would cart off millions of tons of sand and rock over 20 years.

"Citizens from all over Clark County have rallied against this project because of its potential effect on the health of residents and the toll that the blasting operations would have on an otherwise peaceful community," Reid said in a statement that accompanied his bill.

"The dust kicked up by the proposed gravel operation would undoubtedly complicate the current air quality challenges in the Las Vegas Valley and would be particularly troublesome for members of nearby, age-restricted communities that have seniors already suffering from respiratory problems," Reid said.

And this is why I joined some of my fellow Hendersonians on Saturday to walk the neighborhoods in Anthem and let them know about what Senator Reid is doing to stop the Sloan Hills gravel pit. And while a few Republicans just didn't want to hear anything positive about Reid, everyone else I spoke with in Sun City Anthem (an area in the far south end of the development, very close to the proposed mine) appreciated what Reid is doing in DC to stop Henderson from getting screwed.

So on Saturday, I was out helping to raise awareness of what's happening in Henderson. On Sunday, I joined some activists from Sierra Club and Progress Now Nevada to protest Sarah Palin's continued love for "Drill Baby Drill, Spill Baby Spill" as she was delivering her train wreck of a stump speech for the ReCon retail real estate convention. While Palin still extols the "virtues" of offshore oil drilling, the Gulf of Mexico has been devastated by the catastrophe caused by the BP oil spill.

"Drill Baby Drill" is NOT a realistic energy solution. We're running out of oil. And as companies like BP drill deeper and deeper to try to find more oil, the chance of more disasters like the BP spill in The Gulf rises exponentially.

Oh, and what about that thing called climate change? Do we really want to remain addicted to fossil fuels causing this escalating crisis? Or do we want real, sustainable energy solutions?

We're poised here in Nevada to take full advantage of the developing green economy and demand for smart renewable energy solutions. So why should we listen to Sarah Palin and her "Drill Baby Drill" cohorts in the fossil fuel industry as they ruin our country? Perhaps we should do what's in our own best interest, as well as what's in the best interest of our nation and our planet.

So as you can tell, I was busy doing what little I could to help save our planet. I can't help it. I like me some clean air, clean water, and a healthy Mother Earth. Don't you, too? :-)
